As part of its commitment to raising public awareness on its various developments, programmes and initiatives, the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (UPC) outlined its youth-oriented ‘UniverCity’ programme for raising awareness on its Urban, Economic, Environmental and Social Development activities under its ‘Estidama’ initiative during World Environment Day celebrations held with ALHOSN University.
The ‘UniverCity’ presentation highlighted the importance of the Estidama programme developed and managed by the UPC. Although the main purpose of Estidama is to create a new sustainability framework for all developments in Abu Dhabi, it is built under the four comprehensive pillars of environment, economy, society and culture. Held under the theme ‘Planning for the Next Generation,’ the session covered the Capital 2030, Al Ain 2030 and Al Gharbia development master plans and outlined the UPC’s role as a government entity in overseeing the physical master planning for Abu Dhabi. UPC planners conducted the presentation.
“All members of Abu Dhabi’s community have both the right and the responsibility to learn more about the emirate’s development agendas. The Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council’s ‘UniverCity’ program is an excellent platform for educating students and youths in general on where their future is headed and what key roles they can play in it. It also demonstrates the strategic role that Estidama plays in Abu Dhabi’s future development which ALHOSN is committed to fully support,” said Dr. Adnan Husnéin, Urban Planning Department Chair, ALHOSN University.
The Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council is tasked with initiating, driving and supporting the emirate’s urban development strategy under Abu Dhabi Vision 2030. The Council’s responsibilities cover evaluation and management of land availability and use, urban and environmental issues, mobility, infrastructure, and urban services. Its Estidama initiative aims to transform Abu Dhabi into the sustainable capital of the Arab World. UniverCity complements this goal by tapping educational partnerships to demonstrate and promote sustainable development throughout Abu Dhabi.
ALHOSN University, a leading Abu Dhabi-based university dedicated to high-quality value-based education, actively supports the emirate’s environmental and developmental visions.
