Arab Comedy Devolves into Domestic Abuse and Rape Jokes?

Shown for illustrative purposes- Could this sexist perception change with more women behind the camera?
And so, Abou el Abed beats Em el Abed[1] up
There is a big difference between pushing the envelope and poor taste. Lebanese sketch shows don't appear to know the difference. Apparently, beating your wife and raping random strangers is absolutely hilarious. And how to make a girl feel like a woman? Make her iron your shirt.
This blogger observes that such messages go beyond jest. They lead to negative perceptions of women. The result? When women try to fight for their rights, they get laughed aside.
"These jokes promote a system of thought that is already present among a large segment of the Lebanese, be it about foreign communities (especially migrant workers), women, elderly women, homosexual men, or natives of Homs, Syria."

Gaza’s hidden treasures – which Israel doesn’t want you to know about
There is a great fear for Palestinian heritage. Lots of valuable and amazing historical treasures and artifacts still live on in Gaza in spite of Israeli bombings. Due to the siege, it is difficult to maintain these artifacts as they require professional help and certain chemicals that can't come through. Yet, maintaining Palestine's history is part of the fight.
"But more people are becoming aware of Gaza, Palestine’s rich culture, history, and beauty, and the living witnesses to Israel’s Nakba and continuous, terrorist bombing campaigns, who will never allow the world to forget Palestine’s history."

Lebanese Memes: Lebanese First World Problems
Ah, to only have "first world problems". Life would be nothing more than a reverie. Well, that's not stopping the Lebanese. Only a "first world problem" could rain on their parade, in spite of the developing world setting. Adding to his Lebanese meme inventory, Elie from Lebanon shares this amusing "first world problem" meme straight from Lebanon's club scene.
"Lebanon is definitely not a first world country. But some of our problems are straight out of a first world country, as a byproduct of living beyond our means."
