Assad Still Stands Deludedly Confident

Everyone was buzzing about Assad's speech to the Syrian nation yesterday. And he didn't disappoint. He threatened, offended and ruffled his own feathers, bombastically confident that he would remain. Could future events lead Assad to eat his confident words?

"He rambled, lectured, smiled smugly and showed signs of serious delusion but Bashar Assad is still confident that he can survive the ‘conspiracy’ against his regime."

Every country seems to have its own lingo. Yet, Lebanon seems to have its own meaning for everyday words. For those unversed in the Lebanese art of double meanings, here is a small dictionary to get you by.

"Syria = Godfather"

Roba from Jordan looks back on the memory of her beloved father, who had passed away three years ago. Although death is such "final" concept, she doesn't want him to be remembered in sadness as she posts old blog entries that look back to happier times.

"Death never dies. It remains. He remains. He will never leave. For as long as we live, he will exist in our actions, in our thoughts, in our hearts, in our minds."

If all the songs and literature are anything to go by, love seems to evoke loss to most people. For this proudly single blogger, she looks back on the one relationship that changed her perception of love- for the worse. As time passes, she hopes that it will indeed heal all wounds whatever it takes.
