Egyptian Necrophilia Law was a Hoax, Bloggers Track the Story

The Egyptian Chronicles call the medias bluff and tracks where the Sex with Dead Wives controversy actually began.

"Now it has found its way to the Daily Mail , which is from the most read tabloids read online and you can imagine its impact on the Western mindset that already got that stupid stereotype about Muslims and Arabs already , I think I have to clarify things because it is getting out of control. "

"It's such an outrageous story that one is reminded of Josef Goebbels' famous dictum that "the bigger the lie, the more people will believe it." This story, improbable as it ought to have seemed to anyone with common sense, somehow went halfway round the world before truth could get its boots on.

Several Egyptian reporters/bloggers and an American or two have gradually reconstructed where this grotesque report came from, and I am trying to summarize all their findings here."

While the law may be a hoax,

"An Islamic cleric did in fact say that Muslim men (and women) could have sex with their dead spouses up to six hours after death, but there is no indication that this view was put into a proposed law."

This blogger does not see the big problem with the law, whether it is a hoax or not:

Really, who cares? Of all the problems that exist in this world, and are afflicting real people right now, where do you think Egypt legalizing necrophilia ranks?

Think about this – who is getting hurt in this transaction? Not the wife, she’s dead. You can’t hurt the dead. Granted, it sounds like this person is violating the corpse, but that only matters if you have a belief structure that says that the dead should be respected"
