Silencing the Religious Figures in Lebanon is Counter Productive

Are the sheikhs and other clergy in Beirut helpful int he political processes of the country?
Silencing Religious Figures is not the Answer
While he agrees that the majority of the clergy are not helping to calm things in Lebanon, the Beiruti blogger suggests a better way to deal with them:
"How can we help reduce the influence of religious leaders? There’s no magic wand to wave, but politicians should be less deferential to individuals who are not elected and who are not accountable to the population when things go wrong. They should challenge them whenever they can (which has been happening but very slowly)"
