From Right to Left: Twitter Goes Middle Eastern

Twitter has played a massive role in the Middle East and continues to do so in a great way. You all Tweeted and Twitter listened: Adding to the existing 22 languages in which Twitter is available, it will be adding Arabic, Farsi, Hebrew and Urdu to the mix.

Now, we all know that these languages are already being used, but the Twitter website's interface will be in these languages a la Google, Facebook and Hotmail.

Opinions on the situation in Syria are complicated at best. But Jadaliyya blogger Bassam Haddad shares an in-depth look at one opinion that can be had on the subject, its origins and what it symbolizes within the complex context of Syria's socio-economic discursive terrain.

"While there may be a grain of truth in this argument, it is empty. It is, in fact, an insult to the intelligence of any Syria observer. It overlooks the regime’s brutality in the last ten months of the uprising. It baldly erases decades of oppression, detention, imprisonment, silencing, excommunication, and torture that the regime has dealt to any mere hint of opposition. This is the regime that will turn fifty next year."

While your average person may define negotiations as a "mutual discussion and arrangement of the terms of a transaction or agreement", the Palestinian Authority (PA) definition goes more along the lines of: "Describes 'Life”' from the view point of PA top-negotiators; every minute of a PA-official’s life is negotiations, it is to the PA as natural as breathing, as drinking, as eating."
