Tunisia's Revolution: One Year Since the Fall of Ben Ali

The one year anniversary of the fall of Ben Ali is upon us. One blogger looks back on his words and concerns about the Tunisian revolution a year ago and concludes that its casualties and losses have not been in vain.

"We all owe the Tunisians such an immense debt of gratitude. And admiration. Tahia Tunes!"

This proudly Tunisian blogger has finally paid her first visit to Cairo. And from the beginning, she has developed a love and admiration for the city that defies description and expectation, as have innumerable Arabs and internationals done before her.

"Likening it to a woman (for all great cities are female), Cairo is the Zsa Zsa Gabor to Tunis’ gamboling cheerleader."

Based on misconceptions dating back to the 1960's, there has been this general idea that Lebanese women are the more "free" or "liberal". Apparently, this idea is based on something as trivial, yet at the same time strangely essential, as clothing. In light of the recent marches, Mustapha from Lebanon discusses.

"The thing is, the freedom to choose what to wear is an important freedom that Lebanese women with all levels of modesty enjoy and that many of their Arab sisters envy."

Obama's job was never going to be an easy one and it has gotten even more difficult with elections around the corner. Debates have been buzzing on every outlet over whether Obama's recent withdrawal of American troops from Iraq was a sound one. As far as Foreign Policy blogger Marc Lynch is concerned, it just might be one step in the right direction.

"Withdrawing the last troops from Iraq was a risk, to be sure -- but it was exactly the kind of bold choice which needed to be taken. It was bold in the best way: not militaristic bluster or bombing things to demonstrate resolve, but having the courage to take a risky but correct decision."

Semi-intellectual newspapers and magazines have always been more than happy to compile 100 "Best of"lists involving novels. In it's English-language form, this beautifully old art form has been the subject of much debate. This blogger decides to include Le Monde's own 100 "Best of" list to fore in order to add a fresh batch to the mix.
