A break from the protest schedule for the entertainment agenda in Jordan

Spring is here and Amman’s arts and culture agenda is getting packed. Aat (the network of women artists in Jordan) and Al-Balad Theater are organizing the International Women’s Day Festival, with activities throughout March; film screenings, workshops, and dance performances.

The Saudi Ministry of Interior Issued the Following Statement Today:

Based on recent attempts to circumvent rules, regulations, and procedures for illegal purposes, and confirming what was previously announced on January 27, 2009, the security spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior clarified that Saudi laws and regulations strictly prohibit all kinds of demonstrations, marches, protests, or calling for them, as they contradict with Islamic Shari’a principles and the values and norms of Saudi society. They also breach public order, harm public and private interest, infringe upon other people’s rights, and may lead to chaos, bloodshed, robbery, and put public and private property at risk.

So demonstrations are illegal!

The director of the London School of Economics (LSE) has stepped down the Guardian reports.
