4.5 increase percent in cargo unloaded at ports of Oman
The Omani Ministry of National Economy recently issued a bulletin regarding the unloading of cargo at the various ports of Oman. This bulletin, reported by Asia Pulse and ONA, stated that between January and July of this year, the total weight of cargo unloaded at Sultan Qaboos and Salalah ports grew by 4.5 percent, reaching 1,233,800 tons compared with 1,180,800 during the corresponding period of last year.
This increase was due to the rise in cargo unloaded at Sultan Qaboos, and despite the decrease experienced at Salalah. The figures showed that this year, the cargo unloaded at Sultan Qaboos totaled 885,600 tons, an 8 percent increment compared to the 819,800 of 1999. On the other hand, at Salalah there was a decline in cargo unloaded. During the first seven months of 2000, 348,200 tons were unloaded at Salalah, as opposed to 361,000 tons last year. These figures constitute a 3.5 percent decrease.
