Airports in Gulf undergo expansion
The Government of Dubai recently announced that it has increased the budget allocated for the expansion of the Dubai International Airport to two billion dollars, according to Al-Sharq Al-Awsat daily. The announcement reportedly spurred heightened competition amongst other Gulf airports.
Specialists in the Arabian Gulf aviation sector estimate that a total of five billion dollars will be invested in implementing expansion plans. In addition to Dubai International, airports in Doha, Kuwait City, Jeddah, Abu Dhabi, Sanaa and Muscat are planned to undergo substantial expansions in the near future.
Furthermore, executives at the Dubai International Airport Authority estimate the annual number of passengers using the airport to grow from present 14 million, to 30 million by 2010. –(MENA Report)
