Families ordered to stop building their homes to make way for a new highway won a reprieve on Monday. A decree banning people from building in the new residential area Saraya 2, off Budaiya Highway, has been issued by Bahrain's Municipalities and Agriculture Minister Ali Al Saleh and posted in the Official Gazette, the GDN has reported. But the decree was frozen Monday after large protests from members of the Northern Municipal Council.
The ministry believes that Saraya 2 is blocking one of the possible routes to the planned new BD1 billion Northern Town.
