Bahrain's economy created 67,000 jobs last year, but Bahrainis filled only a 10th of them, according to newly-released research. The study was done by Dr N. Janardhan, programme manager, GCC-Asia Relations, at the Gulf Research Centre (GRC) in Dubai. It focuses on the changing rules of the game for expatriates, mostly Asians, in the GCC countries.
"Reliance on foreign labour has resulted in expatriates currently constituting 88pc of the workforce in the UAE, 83pc in Qatar, 81pc in Kuwait, 72pc in Saudi Arabia, 55pc in Bahrain and 54pc in Oman," said Dr Janardhan, according to the GDN.
