Compaq declares lead as MENA’s computer supplier
Releasing its third-quarter sales figures, Compaq Computers has declared that it held onto its lead as the Middle East and North Africa’s leading supplier of computer hardware, with a 17.2 percent market share for all form factors, 14.5 percent market share for desktops, 38.6 percent for portable computers and 32.8 percent for PC servers.
According a survey carried out by the International Data Corporation (IDC), when compared to the third quarter of 1999, Compaq’s sales grew 65.7 percent in Egypt, 48.8 percent in the UAE, and 42.5 percent in Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, IDC showed the company to be holding a 19 percent market share in Egypt’s desktop sector, an 18.3 percent share in Saudi Arabia and a 25.4 percent share in the UAE
Explaining the company’s strong showing, Walid Moneimne, the vice-president and managing director, Business Development Group in Compaq Computer Europe Middle East and Africa, said that credit should go to Compaq’s ever-increasing focus on the customer with added services provided via the web through its call center. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
