Competition over Saudi tourists switches to high gear
It is this time of year that travel agencies usually engage in fierce competition over the heart and pocket of Saudis planning their summer vacations. Saudis wishing to spend the summer abroad are the target sector for tourist packages recently promoted by several local travel agencies, reported Al-Sharq Al-Awsat daily. At the same time, Saudis are also being enticed to stay close to home with the Saudi Chamber of Commerce organizing several summer festivals, aimed at local tourism.
Official sources reveal that three million Saudis leave their country every summer on tourist trips. Average spending per tourist while abroad amounts to 550 Saudi riyals ($146) per night, which is considered to be one of the highest expenditure rates on tourism worldwide. — (MENA Report)
