Dubai Duty Free sales rise five percent in first quarter
Dubai Duty Free recorded sales of 251.2 million Emirati Dirhams ($69.7 million) in the first quarter of 2002, a five percent increase compared to the first quarter of 2001. In March alone sales reached $22 million compared to $22.9 million in the same month last year, a press release reported.
“We have set a sales target of $277 million for this year and the first quarter results put the operation well on track for achieving our target, stated Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free, Colm McLoughlin.
Shopping trends in the first quarter continue to place sales of gold in the number one spot closely followed by perfumes. Electronics have moved into fourth place continuing the trend set in 2001 when sales of electronic goods increased by 40 percent over the previous year.
Dubai Duty Free began operations in December 1983 and recorded a first full year turnover of Dh 72 million. The facility, which is located at Dubai’s international airport, comprises an area of 5,400 square-meters. — (menareport.com)
