Once again, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is encouraging the public to step out of their cars and take a free ride in the Dubai Metro, public buses and water taxis while taking a glimpse of the myriads of activities which will mark the fourth edition of the Public Transport Day on Friday.

The day-long celebration will start with free medical-check-ups and blood donations from 9am to 2pm at Al Ghubaiba bus station. Held in cooperation with the Dubai Health Authority, interested metro riders at the Dubai Healthcare City and Airport Terminal 3 stations can have their blood, cholesterol levels, blood pressure, body weight and height checked.

By 4pm, a public transport marathon will begin to be followed by a book fair for used books from 4.30pm to 11.30pm and an RTA project exhibition from 4pm to 10pm, all at Burj Plaza.

Government entities are expected to participate in the marathon. Teams of five will have to use the public transport to reach various checkpoints. The team that reaches all the check points and who finishes first will be the winner. The teams have to use only the bus, metro and water bus to commute. The public can register at https://rta.playpass.com/a/2871-ptday to join.

From 5 to 6pm marine vessels from all the authorities in Dubai will participate in a marine parade. The parade which will start from Al Shindagha to Al Seef and return to the Marine Station at Al Ghubaiba can be best viewed from Al Ghubaiba Station.

A Dubai Tram Show will be featured from the Gold Souq to Sufouh from 4pm to 11pm. A bus wrapped with the tram design will ride along the area.

Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, said through the Public Transport Day initiative, the RTA is seeking to encourage people to leave their personal vehicles and use various public transit means.
