Ericsson contracted to modernize Ogero network
According to a press release issued this week, Lebanon’s monopoly state controlled fixed-line operator, Ogero, has contracted Ericsson Lebanon Communications to implement a Gigabit Ethernet Metropolitan Area Network (MAN), in an attempt to improve its internal data transmission network.
Gigabit Ethernet is the latest and fastest version of the Ethernet, a protocol for local area network data communications supporting data with transfer capacity of one gigabit (1,000 megabits) per second.
Ammar Halabi, the regional manager of Extreme Networks, the firm providing infrastructure works for Ogero, reported that the new network will act as a means for corporate broadband data communications and will “cover all of Lebanon”.
Ogero President and CEO Jamil Shawqi added that the Ethernet MAN will “also render our corporate networks much more scalable and maintainable, especially for future plans of commercially offering end-to-end Ethernet services”. — (Banque du Liban et d'Outre-Mer Sal)
