The Emirates Telecommunication Corporation (Etisalat) is submitting a Request for Pre-Qualification (RFPQ) in the bidding process for a license to provide mobile phone services in Saudi Arabia, due before March 21.

This is the first official statement from Etisalat regarding the RFPQ and corrects unsubstantiated reports in the media falsely quoting Etisalat's CEO or other sources at the corporation on this issue, reported a press release.

In preparation for the Pre-Qualification, Etisalat has formed a consortium of leading Saudi investors to meet the entry criteria set down by the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC), the Saudi Arabian regulatory authority. Etisalat is also being advised by an international investment bank and a legal firm for the submission of a bid for pre-Qualification.

Etisalat holds a 34.5 percent interest in Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications Company (Thuraya), a 34 percent interest in Zanzibar Telecom, 5.1 percent of Sudan Telecommunications Company and one million shares in Qatar Telecom. — (menareport.com)
