Fireworks import banned in Saudi Arabia
The Saudi Ministry of Commerce recently banned the import of all fireworks into the Kingdom, according to Al-Hayat daily. The use of fireworks in Saudi Arabia has resulted in serious accidents in the past, leading authorities to take measures against the importation of the product.
Saudi market sources estimate that Saudis spend 300 million Saudi riyals ($80 million) on fireworks annually. Used regularly at feasts, weddings and other ceremonies and celebrations.
Most of the fireworks products are usually smuggled into the Kingdom via Yemen and the UAE, while some are illegally manufactured in Jeddah and Dammam. ― (MENA Report)
