Interior Minister Hussein Majali met on Monday with a delegation comprising representatives from the Iraqi Business Council (IBC) and discussed ways to increase economic cooperation between the two countries, eliminate obstacles and overcome challenges facing Iraqi investors.

Majali highlighted the importance of foreign investment projects for the Kingdom, and the ministry’s efforts to streamline related procedures, pointing out that the ministry has a work plan to deal with investors’ needs and to meet their requirements, in a bid to save their time and effort. The delegates mentioned several difficulties, related to residency issuance, renewal and delays, besides similar difficulties they face when they initially try to obtain a visit-visa.

Majali yesterday decided to form a committee, comprising representatives from the two sides, to be chaired by the ministry’s Secretary General Sameh Majali, tasked with drawing up proposals on ways to eliminate challenges facing Iraqi investors. It was also decided to hold a meeting soon to examine the committee’s recommendations and take appropriate decisions as soon as possible. Established in 2007 in Jordan, the IBC started as some Iraqi investors and businessmen present in Jordan agreed to form a unified body to represent them.
