Islamic economic and finance conference to be held in Bahrain
The Fifth International Conference on Islamic Economic and Finance will convene under the theme ’Sustainable Development and Islamic Finance in Muslim Countries’, April 21-23, 2003 and will be held at the Gulf International Exhibition and Conference Center at the Gulf Hotel.
This conference will provide a unique forum for local, regional and international economists, bankers and financiers to understand, share and discuss the intricacies of Islamic finance and, also, examine the dynamic nature of Islamic economies and the various problems that it faces.
The Ministry of Finance and National Economy are the hosts and main sponsors of this conference, which is jointly organized by the University of Bahrain, Islamic Research and Training Institute, Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, International Association for Islamic Economics, United Kingdom.
“Bahrain’s status as the Middle East’s premier financial center makes it an ideal location for holding this conference where delegates will be able to meet together and consider some of the pressing problems facing Muslim countries and the obstacles that restrict their progress and development,” commented Nadhem Al-Saleh, Chairman of Department of Economics & Finance, University of Bahrain.
“Some of these problems include insufficient financial resources, fragile financial and banking systems, poor infrastructure, unemployment, poverty, huge debts and unfair distribution of income and wealth,” he added. “At the Conference, these issues and problems will be thoroughly examined and delegates will try and see how best they can be alleviated in the light of an Islamic economic system.”
More than 30 papers will be presented by leading economic researchers, academics, bank managers and businessmen from various countries around the world. — (menareport.com)
