Jordan’s MobileCom delivers roaming capability in China
MobileCom recently announced that it is adding China to the list of countries where its customers can roam. The service, which is active as of Thursday, February 28, 2002, will see
Jordanians being able to roam in China for the first time and exclusively through the MobileCom network.
“MobileCom has expanded its roaming agreements to include the Republic of China, a key destination for Jordanian businessmen and a first for Jordan,” said Erick Valette, chief marketing officer at MobileCom. “Today’s roaming agreement with China makes MobileCom the first GSM operator in Jordan to offer this capability to its customers.”
MobileCom customers will now be able to take advantage of roaming capabilities in 78 countries including China, as well as an additional 99 countries through the Thuraya agreement, according to a company press release. MobileCom’s roaming service in
China is possible through China Mobile, the first mobile operator in China with over 100 million customers and providing countrywide coverage since 1994.
“Jordan is one of about 40 countries that China has established roaming agreements with over the past few years; being a key destination for businessmen, China is becoming one of the most sought after locations to establish a roaming service with,” said Valette.
MobileCom recently launched full roaming services to its CardCom prepaid customers, a first for the Kingdom, allowing all prepaid users to take advantage of roaming services without having to leave deposits.
MobileCom is the Jordanian public mobile telephone network operator, and is the operator of the mobile communications license granted to Jordan Telecom. MobileCom is a member of the Jordan Telecom Group that also includes e-Dimensions and Global One.
The company is partly owned by international telecommunications operator, France Telecom. It has launched its full public service in Jordan in September 2000. — (menareport.com)
