National employment drive secures 700 jobs in Jordan
More than 700 jobs have been secured within the past four days [in Jordan] under the National Employment Campaign, Labour Minister Nidal Katamine announced on Monday.
Launched last month, the employment campaign has also secured jobs for 30 people with disabilities (PWD) since last week.
Last week, the ministry announced that 8,800 job opportunities were secured for applicants within 10 days earlier this month as part of the national recruitment initiative titled, "We are all partners."
Announcing the results of the second stage of the ongoing campaign, which His Majesty King Abdullah launched in January, Katamine said 800 youths from the southern governorates will receive stipends during vocational training under a programme created by the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company (JPMC).
The minister noted that the training will be given to young people from Karak, Tafileh and Maan, starting March 1.
During the course, each trainee will be paid JD200 ($282) a month in addition to workplace injury insurance and a transportation allowance for those travelling from remote areas.
Applicants must have completed 10th grade to be eligible for the training course, which will be hosted by the Vocational Training Corporation, according to Katamine.
He added that the ministry will request other companies in the Kingdom to follow the JPMC's lead and help secure more jobs for young Jordanians as part of their corporate social responsibilities.
The National Employment Campaign has become a "philosophy, strategy, vision and sustainable approach" for the ministry in its efforts to combat unemployment, Katamine told reporters.
"With such an approach, it can be said that the unemployment problem in Jordan has begun a decline," he added.
In coordination with the private sector, the ministry will organise recruitment days in all of the Kingdom's governorates and poverty-stricken areas, similar to the one recently organised at the Royal Cultural Centre in Amman, which attracted 11,000 job seekers from all over the country.
Women, PWD, orphans, people of unknown parents, widows and divorcées will be given priority in jobs under this employment campaign, the minister said.
The "We are all partners" initiative is aims to provide a total of 18,000 job opportunities.
