Kuwait’s Burgan oilfield cuts production due to oil leak
Kuwait’s Burgan oilfield recently cut its production by 60,000 barrels per day (bpd), which is equivalent to two thirds of its output, due to a leak at a nearby oil-gathering center, confirmed a Kuwait Oil Company official. The leak is not expected to have an affect on total prodiction as output is being compensated by other centers in the oilfield, reported AFP.
Part of the center was closed down after the discovery of the leak last Thursday, forcing the center’s production down initally from 90,000 bpd to 30,000 bpd. Details have yet to be released regarding when the center willl return to its full capacity.
A blast occurred last month at the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC)’s gathering center 15 in the Al-Rawdhatain region, left four people dead while rendering the facility half destroyed. Kuwait resumed production from the undamaged Center 23 at Al-Sabriya last week. It is now producing approximately 50,000 barrels per day (bpd), stated a KOC source. The blast burnt down a gas booster station and a power station supplying electricity to the northern oilfields, which produce 600,000 bpd. — (menareport.com)
