Kuwait to establish a technology village

The government of Kuwait has instructed officials to establish an international technology village to bring modern technology to Kuwait, officials said Friday. The ministry of trade and industry held a meeting Tuesday to discuss the government’s request, a ministry official revealed. 

The official said the government wants the village to compliment the work of university research centers and the local industry sector. The government hopes the village will help develop the nations knowledge in technology and train the young generation in technology administration. 

On the economic front, the government hopes the village will help create investment opportunities locally and regionally and strengthen the national economy by providing a strong support base for the industrial sector. 

Adnan Sultan, the representative of the investment union said the village would help absorb the large number of university graduates in all fields. Sultan said the investments and projects the village may generate would provide graduates with employment opportunities. 

The official said the ministry has recommended to the government that Kuwait’s General Investment Association prepare an initial study on the proposed village before a final recommendation is given to the government. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
