Lebanon and Qatar discuss gas deal
Discussions regarding the supply of Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Lebanon were recently held between the two countries, according to Al-Hayat daily. Lebanon’s Minister of Energy Muhammad Baydhun and his Qatari counterpart Abdullah Al-Atiyya participated in these meetings.
Earlier this year, Al-Atiyya asserted his hopes that Qatar would be able to supply the LNG to Lebanon in the future. LNG is considered superior to both oil and naphtha, currently used in Lebanon to run its power stations.
The Lebanese Energy Ministry is reportedly preparing a study regarding the replacement of these fuels with LNG. Furthermore, a proposal involving the TotalElfina Company was previously submitted to Lebanon by Qatari representatives. — (Mena Report)
