Local real estate contractors in the UAE hard to come by

As a result of the massive real estate boom in the UAE and subsequent growth in construction projects, real estate developers are being forced in growing numbers to hire foreign construction workers for their developments due to shortages of local contractors. 

"We can't use a local contractor first because there is an acute shortage of them in the market and second they can't deliver projects on time. We have seen a lot of cases in the market when the projects are delayed indefinitely to the dismay of developers and clients alike," said June Kim, chief executive officer of Axon Gulf that recently launched several mega-projects in Dubai valued at nearly $1 billion, according to </i>Khaleej Times<i>. 

The ongoing construction boom, which began in the new millennium, as well as a lack of experienced and qualified labor, is the main problem behind the new situation.
