Losses to Palestinian agriculture sector hit more than $1 billion
Palestine's Ministry of Agriculture has disclosed that the total losses to this sector as a result of Israel's repressive activities in the Palestinian territories since he beginning of the Aqsa Intifada up to September 2004 had reached US$1.1 billion. Such losses have been sustained because the Israelis uprooted thousands upon thousands of olive trees, almond trees, banana trees, date trees, and other types of harvestable agricultural trees and plants, in addition to the destruction of the agricultural infrastructure, such as water reservoirs, water wells, storage facilities and others.
The report, cited by IINA, added that millions of dollars' worth of productive animals, such as cattle, chickens, fowls and others have been destroyed by the Israeli occupation forces. (Menareport.com)
