With its successful contract completion, the company has further emphasised its commitment to safeguard the environment in the UAE and meeting the basic requirements in the area.
The scope of the company’s contract encompassed design, supply, construction and maintenance of mechanical and electrical works for a sewage system to serve the Delma Island, located approximately 210km northwest of Jebel Dhana in the capital.
The project, which was part of the Western Region Sewerage Project catering to nine villages in Abu Dhabi’s Western Region, will help the country sustain the pace of their social and economic development. The contract included mechanical works associated with six pumping stations, a Sewage Treatment Plant, effluent storage and irrigation reuse facilities including an effluent tanker filling station.
Omar Al Zoubi, General Manager of Metito in Abu Dhabi, said: “We believe that water, wastewater and the environment are central to the major issues for tomorrow’s society. The overlapping elements between these areas open up possibilities for innovative proposals that will shed new lights on the sustainable development. At Metito, we are proud to have been associated with this prestigious contract to build the sewage facilities for Delma Island.”
He added: “Keeping in view the effects of a growing population on water and air quality, it was imperative for Metito to ensure that the treated effluent was of a safe quality to be used for irrigation and plantation there, especially considering that the sewage treatment plant will cater to an estimated population of 10,000 people living on the Island.”
Mr. Al Zoubi said: “As mandated by the global environment laws, Metito believes in following proper wastewater engineering and we adhered to all the stipulated norms in the Delma project. In the past we have worked on similar assignments and surpassed our client’s expectations. We have once again proved our expertise by successfully executing this wastewater system in a challenging working environment such as Delma Island.”
