The Mexican government is looking to strengthen cooperation and explore joint investment opportunities with the UAE.

While Mexico is interested in promoting the flow of tourists from the UAE, other business sectors including trade, tourism and construction are potential investment opportunities that UAE businesses could explore, Francisco Alonso, Ambassador of Mexico to the UAE, said during Country Focus briefing, which was organised by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Between 2011 and 2012, UAE-Mexico bilateral trade increased by 27 per cent from Dh4.1 billion to Dh5.2 billion, according to the Dubai Chamber.

Potential

Dubai’s companies can use their experience in trade, tourism and construction businesses and benefit from Mexico’s strong growth potential, he said.

Irene Mia, Regional Director for the Economist Intelligence Unit for Latin America and the Caribbean, highlighted in her presentation that the extensive network of more than 50 free trade agreements and bilateral trade pacts can be considered essential to boosting trade and investment between the UAE and Mexico.

Manufacturing, which accounted for 17 per cent of Mexico Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2012, is one of the most dynamic sectors for investment and growth, she added.
