New record day of sales at Dubai Duty Free
On February 21, 2002, the cash registers at Dubai Duty Free were ringing as the shopping complex recorded a new daily record of 4.3 million Emirati dirhams ($1.2) worth of sales representing over 29,000 transactions, according to a company press release. The new daily sales record was achieved almost exactly one year from the previous record of Dh3.68 million (one million dollars), which was reached on March 2, 2001.
Commenting on the new figure, Colm McLoughlin, managing director of Dubai Duty Free said: “The new record was set at the beginning of Eid Al-Adha and it is a great indicator for the first quarter of 2002. An analysis of the sales figures on the day shows an increase in luxury food and gift items and reflect the purchasing trends of passengers visiting overseas during the Eid holidays.”
The biggest sales on the day were found in Dubai Duty Free's two FoodPlus outlets with delicatessen items accounting for Dh423,000 ($118,000) worth of sales. Food sales were closely followed by sales of confectionery, which reached a daily record Dh419,000 ($116,000).
Perfume sales topped Dh 401,000 ($111,000), closely followed by the traditional number one selling category of Gold, which accounted for Dh 398,000 ($110,000) worth of sales on the day.
“We are delighted with the new daily record and are determined to keep on track to reach our annual sales target of one billion dirhams in 2002,” added McLoughlin. Dubai Duty Free ended 2001 with annual record sales of Dh888 million ($244 million). — (menareport.com)
