New Saudi factories begin to market produce
As many as 35 new Saudi factories have recently begun marketing their industrial products to Gulf States and local markets, reported Al-Jazirah daily. These factories currently employ 1,688 workers.
These factories have invested more than 470 million Saudi riyals ($125.3 million) in recent years in the upgrading of machinery and related manufacturing equipment, new construction projects, as well as in research to advance their industrial technology.
Saudi Arabia has overhauled its infrastructure, industrial and service sectors as part of its ongoing five-year economic plan. As a result, the country has seen significant growth in the number of industrial plants operating within it. According to the latest available figures, in 1999, 2,557 factories were operating in Saudi Arabia, with a total investment of $43.3 billion. — (MENA Report)
