Nile to remain out of regional water crisis

Egypt’s minister of water resources & irrigation, Mahmud Abu Zaid, said that his country’s water policy aims at keeping the Nile River out the current water crisis in the Middle East.
According to Al-Sharq Al-Awsat daily, Egyptian authorities plan to achieve this goal by maintaining intensive coordination efforts between the countries bordering the Nile River. Under the agreed policy, all countries through which the Nile river runs have conceded not to divert or sell water originating from the river to foreign states.
Addressing the Arab Affairs Parliamentary Committee, Abu Zaid declared that no joint projects were executed in cooperation between the Nile river states and Israel, nor is Israel a strategic partner of Ethiopia. He also accused Israel of stealing more than 90 percent of the available underground water resources in the Sinai desert. — (MENA Report)
