Oman: Sohar Aluminium to open negotiations with Bechtel
Sohar Aluminium has concluded the review of the tenders received for the appointment of the Engineering Procurement Construction Management (EPCM) contractor for its aluminium smelter project in Oman.
Tony Kinsman, CEO of Sohar Aluminium told Oman News Agency (ONA) following that the evaluation and review Sohar Aluminium has chosen Bechtel as the preferred bidder for the smelter and aims to enter negotiations to conclude the Engineering procurement and construction management contract.
He expected negotiations to be completed with the preferred bidder in 4 weeks.
Sohar aluminium company was formed on September 15th, 2004 and will be based adjacent to the existing Sohar industrial area. The company will set up a single AP35 pot line, as well as associated carbon and casting facilities and a 800MW gas fired power station. Lump Sum Turnkey (LSTKEngineering Procurement & Construction (EPC) bids for the power station are expected in April 2005. The factory is planned to be operational by 2008.
