OMD Middle East generates $30 million worth of new business in 2002
Named Global Media Agency of the Year for 2002 by Advertising Age, OMD is now described as a unified planning and buying force with a consistent global message. In 2002, it picked up $2.3 billion in new business including several hotly contested global accounts. OMD also put together the biggest single media deal in history, a one billion dollar cross-media pact with Walt Disney Co. and ABC.
Applying international solutions with local implementation is a key process that has been adopted by OMD in the Middle East. Making a significant entry in the region in January 2002, OMD Middle East is headquartered in Dubai, with offices across the region. In 2002, OMD Middle East clocked some $30 million of new business, including Sony, Mercedes Benz, Diageo, Groupe SEB and Lebanon Tourism.
Elie Khouri, regional managing director of OMD Middle East, said: “The award does validate the work that has been going on in our network around the world for the last couple of years.” To him, the award recompenses OMD’s major local, regional and global account and the formation of a cohesive network. “We truly share the same values and culture. ‘Insights, Ideas, Results’ is much more than a motto. It is what truly unites us and drives our work, wherever we are,” Khouri adds.
Khouri recognizes that global techniques and tools need to be tailored for the region, in order to deliver creative ideas that cut through the media clutter. It is local consumer insights and media knowledge that allow OMD to push the boundaries of media planning and buying to deliver better results for its clients.
“We have made a substantial investment in consumer insights, media creativity, tools and people in just about one year. Today, our media partners and clients truly value our creative culture that makes OMD an inspirational and fun place to work in … we are also proud of our achievement of reaching the top 3 ranking in size among other regional media specialists during 2002,” Khouri says.
