Palestinian unemployment climbs to 50 percent
The Director General of the Arab Labor Organization, Ibrahim Qweider, recently stated that the rate of unemployment in Palestine has climbed to disturbing levels, reaching more than 50 percent of the overall labor force.
More than 500,000 Palestinian workers are currently unemployed, in addition to 70,000 Palestinian workers who have lost previously held jobs in Israel following border closures, reported Al-Sharq Al-Awsat.
Qweider estimated the current rate of unemployment in the entire Arab world to be 14 percent. Approximately 13 million people are presently unemployed in the Middle East region. ― (MENA Report)
