Under the supervision of its social committee, Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT), the world’s gateway to Jordan and beyond, recently concluded the third phase of its Ahl Al Khair (People of Charity) initiative. The third stage was introduced to coincide with the arrival of the Holy Month of Ramadan, a month inviting for social unity and the spread of good will across all sectors of the community.
The initiative targets the city of Aqaba and its surrounding villages including; Wadi Araba area, and Al Disi. It entails the distribution of food packages containing basic food items throughout the holy month. Furthermore, it will also include the distribution of coupons to poor families, before Eid Al Fitr. These coupons can be exchanged for purchases from specific stores.
What makes this initiative special is its capacity to bring people together towards the unified humanitarian goal of spearheading positive change in the community. It also strengthens the spirit of social responsibility on ACT’s internal level, through encouraging team members to collectively raise funds for the good causes it supports.
Acting CEO at ACT Mr. Donovan Bubb explains that the third phase of Ahl Al Khair initiative serves as a fitting continuation for the company’s long term efforts in the field of corporate social responsibility. He further added that the company’s role goes beyond contributing positively to the Jordanian economy as it also includes spearheading positive change in the field of social development. This initiative is the company’s way of reducing economic hardships facing families in need especially in the holy month of Ramadan.
It is worth noting that the company released the first phase of the initiative in the year 2011, following the next phase in the year 2012 and the third phase being this year. Ahl Al Khair initiative is only one of the company’s many CSR activities, launched with the common goal of empowering less fortunate members of the community.
