In celebration of Mother’s Day, the National Health Insurance Company - Daman, yesterday hosted an interactive public workshop to support and educate pregnant mothers on healthy pregnancy as they prepare for child birth. More than 260 mothers and mothers-to-be attended the event.
The workshop was organised by the Daman’s Health Support’s Maternity Management team, which advised on how to maintain healthy habits and eat a well-balanced diet to keep both mother and baby healthy during pregnancy.
Rania Younes, Star FM anchor hosted the event giving participants the opportunity to engage with experts in a range of entertaining interactive sessions and health related activities.
Dr. Alfons Grabosch, Director, Health Support at Daman said: “Through our public outreach programmes, Daman continues to support healthy living and wellbeing in the UAE. The workshop was another example of how Daman reaches out to the community to provide the tools necessary to follow a healthy lifestyle during pregnancy.”
During the workshop was also discussed baby-care in the important first six months with topics including the art of breast feeding and the introduction of solids into the baby’s diet.
Participants had a chance to quiz obstetrics and gynaecology consultant Dr. Wasnaa Al Yawer, Cromwell Hospital in Alain, on pregnancy and motherhood. Dr. Mirna Ghannoum, Radiologist from Emirates Hospital further shared what expectant mothers can know about their babies from the ultrasound pictures.
“Our Maternity Management programme provides a holistic support for mothers during pregnancy and for the critical weeks afterwards. Mothers carry the next generation with them and the key learnings today will shape a healthier future for the UAE population.” Dr. Grabosch added.
The event closed with a healthy dinner; complete with recommended portion sizes and food variety that gave mothers a sample of an ideal meal to consume during pregnancy.

The event saw the launch of a Maternity Management book and Maternal Yoga & Exercise video for expectant mothers.
