The National Health Insurance Company-Daman has been awarded with three international accreditations in recognition of the quality of its management systems. The awards for Pharmacy Benefit Management, Information Security Management and total Quality Management System have been accredited by independent bodies that set the global standards for quality administration.
Commenting on the certifications, Daman’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Michael Bitzer said: “These independent, international accreditations are a welcome reward for our strong quality commitment. Achieving these high industry standards demonstrates our customers that we count on quality in everything we do. It also reinforces Daman’s reputation as a reliable health insurer and industry leader by setting the standard within the insurance industry.”
Daman’s Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) system, which was introduced last year for Basic plan members, has received full accreditation from URAC, a Washington, D.C.-based health care accrediting organization that establish quality standards for the health care industry.
The PBM system allows pharmacies to seek an automated pre-approval from Daman for prescribed medications creating greater efficiency and a far smoother process for both patients and pharmacists. The system uses Shafafiya, the Health Authority – Abu Dhabi’s (HAAD) electronic transaction platform for healthcare providers and insurers in the emirate. HAAD requires the implementation of PBM, which in turn requires URAC accreditation.
In addition to URAC, Daman has also received accreditation from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for its Quality Management System (QMS) and its Information Security Management System (ISMS). The world-leading body issues ISO certificates for applicants that meet their rigorous standards, which have to be audited through an independent certification body.
ISO 9001 was awarded to Daman for its QMS as a result of the health insurer’s commitment to satisfying customer needs and requirements across all operational levels. The Al Ain Thiqa branch, operated mostly by UAE nationals, received particular praise from the independent certification body for its outstanding results in implementing ISO 9001.
Daman’s commitment to ensuring the highest standards of confidentiality and integrity of member’s information has also been recognized by the award of the ISO 27001 for Information Security Management System. The scope of the certification covered Daman’s headquarters and is proving the company as a trusted health insurance provider able to meet international best practice on customer privacy.
