As part of its ongoing commitment to the UAE community, The National Health Insurance Company- Daman, today announced a partnership with the Abilities Development Centre (ADC) in Abu Dhabi.
Daman will be collaborating with the ADC to enhance its facilities and contribute valuable learning resource materials to the school that first opened its doors to students in 2007. The centre works with children suffering from a range of learning challenges and autism.
The Abilities Development Centre has recently shifted to a larger location in Abu Dhabi, resulting in an increased capacity – doubling from 40 to more than 80 students.
The program kicked off as Daman representatives, including Chief Commercial Officer Dr. Sven Rohte, spent a morning at the Centre’s new location installing tables, chairs and learning resources that the company provided in a primary level classroom.
Daman’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Michael Bitzer, commented: “Daman is proud to undertake this initiative which will undoubtedly offer some support to these students. We have been following the efforts of the ADC over the past several months and have had the unique opportunity to see firsthand the services they are offering to their deserving students. Daman is in a fortunate position to offer its support and we see this as the beginning of a strong relationship with the ADC.”
Daman also donated a fully fitted outdoor playground unit, complete with safety features in order to facilitate daily physical activity for all students.
Most notably, Daman aims to support ADC with a sensory room equipped with clinically graded apparatus to enhance the senses of smell, sight, hearing and touch in an entertaining way.
According to Sameera Salem, Director of the Abilities Development Center , the demand for specialized children’s support centres has increased dramatically over the past five years, stating: “We have observed a 75 percent increase in enrollment since 2007, making the strain on our resources higher than ever. The new classroom and playground will greatly improve the quality of time the student have at the center, and we are grateful for Daman’s support. ”
The school was selected based on a number of criteria, including a demonstrated need for resources and facility improvements.
The program will continue as Daman employees volunteer to paint, landscape, and furnish additional learning and recreational spaces at the centre.
Daman was recently recognized for its ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility when it was honored with the annual CSR award at the Middle East Insurance Awards during Insurex 2011.
