Danube, the leader in construction, building materials and shop fitting industries, has announced the launch of an interior design competition catering to senior collegiate and graduate interior design students coming from the GCC region, during a press conference held recently at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Dubai. The competition, which is being held in partnership with the Association of Professional Interior Designers (APID), an organization representing professional interior designers in the Gulf region, is aimed at showcasing the unique talent and creativity of the region’s interior design industry and is also part of the UAE’s move to commemorate World Interiors Day 2012. The leading company is set to give away prizes with a total value of over AED 85,000. A special Gala Dinner will be held in May where the winning entries will be awarded.
According to Danube, the competition is open to any senior or graduate interior design student coming from any college or university within the GCC region. The competition will be accepting individual entries and entries made by a group with a maximum of four members. Deadline for the registration of entries will be on March 20, 2012, while the deadline of the submission of entries will be on May 8, 2012. The competition is split into two categories; the first is for the design of a reception lounge for a small private museum housing a collection of Middle Eastern contemporary art while the second category is for the design of a display fixture.
“The Middle East region is home to some of the most creative and highly talented interior designers, which is strongly reflected in the designs seen in key landmarks like the Burj Khalifa, The Makkah Clock Royal Tower, The Kuwait Towers, among others” said Rizwan Sajan, Founder and Chairman, Danube. “We have launched this interior design competition as part of a move to help boost the region’s interior design segment and also to discover the talent of emerging interior designers. We look forward to seeing engaging and interesting designs from students coming from all over the region.”
“We laud Danube for its move to host a competition for the region’s rapidly growing interior design industry. The competition not only aims at throwing the spotlight on the MEA’s interior design segment but will also increase the level of awareness on the significant role that interior design plays in everyday aspects of our lives. We are proud to be a part of this worthy endeavour, “concluded Farida Abdulla Kamber Al Awadhi, President APID.
To date, several universities have already expressed their interest in taking part of the competition. These academic institutions include American University in Dubai, American University in Sharjah, Ajman Institute of Science and Technology, Al Ghurair University, Al Hosn University, Manipal University and Sharjah University.
