The Tabaq Al Khair initiative in Dubai Customs’ main building
Dubai Customs dedicates itself to the launch of a diverse array of community-based events and initiatives. The Department’s commitment to community uplift is a fundamental part of its overall strategic plan, which incorporates a unique social responsibility approach that relies on active participation in both formal and informal volunteer work.
Dubai Customs’ focus on social responsibility has had significant impact on the community throughout the course of many years. The Department is highly concerned with community development, which is one of its key strategic objectives, side-to-side with its economic and security responsibilities. Dubai Customs’ approach to community development targets the integration of community and environmental issues, with the strategic goal of sustainable development.
The Tabaq Al Kair event is one of Dubai Customs’ community initiatives. The event comes as part of a series of social campaigns of which the Dubai Customs is eager to organize and participate in. Within the context of Dubai Customs’ humanitarian approach and in appreciation of God’s infinite blessings; further reinforced by sincere, good intentions that are fully expressed in accordance with the law; Dubai Customs unequivocally commits itself to the aid of the needy and less fortunate both inside and outside of the UAE.
“The Tabaq Al Khair event is organized in line with Dubai Customs’ commitment to the launch of community initiatives with the active participation of its staff. The Department always encourages its staff to partake in such initiatives to help provide for the needs of the poor. Tabaq Al Khair’s revenues are dedicated to humanitarian and charitable activities, in coordination with charitable foundations in the UAE, through which charitable, philanthropic, and humanitarian organizations interact with all social segments in order to provide the largest possible volume of aid to those who are in need. This initiative comes in response to the government’s calls to help every needy person whether inside the UAE or abroad,” Aisha Al Sheikh, Head of National Identity and Charitable Projects at Dubai Customs, stated.
She added that the Social Responsibility Section at the Corporate Communication Department organized a variety of charitable initiatives in 2013, and the Tabaq Al Khair event was organized four times. The event was organized in a progressive manner so as to be a particularly integrative and inclusive initiative, which promotes the strong involvement of female employees.
The initiative -with all its revenues allocated to humanitarian and charity work- aims to promote the principle of social responsibility at both an individual and institutional level. Dubai Customs’ successful promotion of this principle is evidenced by the staff’s affirmation of their dedication to humanitarian and charitable acts through their purchase of traditional dishes prepared by female employees at their homes.
Al Sheikh confirmed that Dubai Customs’ commitment to the principle of social responsibility is in line with the Dubai Government’s directives, which aim to achieve sustainable development, and to uphold the excellence and leadership of the Emirate in all domains. The development of Dubai Customs’ social work is based upon the international model of social responsibility; which integrates employees, clients, the labor market, and the environment into a progressive force which improves Dubai Customs’ performance and enhances its reputation in the social, economic, and environmental realms.
