The Dubai Mall, the flagship mall development of Emaar Malls Group, and the world’s most visited shopping and leisure destination, is marking March with an array of activities that puts the spotlight on the community.
Among the activities held during the month are an exclusive online promotion to celebrate Mother’s Day; a walkathon and associated activities to enhance awareness of Down Syndrome, and the third Bidaya exhibition to showcase Emirati creative talent.

The Mother’s Day online promotion, currently ongoing through The Dubai Mall’s Facebook page and Twitter account (@TheDubaiMall), is organised in partnership with a number of retailers in the mall. Through the promotion, ‘Because Moms deserve the best,’ Facebook and Twitter followers of the mall are invited to share their wishes online and get a chance to win an array of attractive prizes including a Grand Prize. The promotion is ongoing until March 19, 2012.
The mall will mark the World Down Syndrome Day in partnership with UAE Down Syndrome Association from March 21 to 23. In its third year of partnership with the Association, the mall will host a special art exhibition portraying works by people with Down Syndrome. A series of workshops and knowledge sessions will also be held to further strengthen public awareness about the genetic disorder that causes damage to mental development.
According to a report, the UAE has one of the highest rates of incidence of Down Syndrome at one in every 449 live births compared with the global average of one in 800 to 1,000 newborns. To highlight the concern, on March 23, the mall will host a World Down Syndrome Day Walkathon open for the public, and expected to be attended a number of dignitaries. Several retailers in the mall are stepping forward to support the event.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the third edition of ‘Bidaya,’ an exhibition that highlights Emirati creative talent, will also be held in the mall in March.
Offering the full breadth of retail choices, the mall’s spread of 1,200 outlets meets all shopping requirements of visitors – from fashion wear to accessories, electronic appliances to home furnishing, the latest communication gadgets to audio-visual choices, books, jewellery and much more. The upmarket fashion brands, located within a dedicated Fashion Avenue, reiterate the position of Dubai as the region’s fashion capital. The mall also has over 160 food and beverage outlets – providing a choice for any taste.
The mall’s leisure attractions include Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, which holds the Guinness World Record for the largest acrylic viewing panel; the Olympic sized Dubai Ice Rink; the region’s first SEGA Republic – the largest of its kind indoor theme park; KidZania®, the only one of its kind children’s edutainment centre in the entire Middle East region; and the 22-screen Reel Cinemas, one of the region’s largest megaplexes that can seat over 2,800 people.
The Dubai Fountain in the waterfront promenade of the mall attracts thousands of visitors every day, while the mall offers the access to At the Top, Burj Khalifa, the world’s highest observatory deck with an outdoor terrace. The Dubai Mall is centrally located in Downtown Dubai, described as ‘The Centre of Now.’
