HE Jassim Al Zaabi and the Customs Authorities delegation in the Airport Operations Department at DXB
Dubai Customs received a delegation comprising representatives from federal Customs and free-zones authorities, headed by HE Jassim Mohammed Al Zaabi, Director General of the General Authority for the Security of Ports, Borders and Free Zones, whom was welcomed by Khalid Ahmed Yousef, Acting Manager of Airport Operations Department, and airport terminals and inspection operations managers. The visit was aimed at strengthening mutual cooperation and exchange of practical expertise.
The visiting delegation was first introduced to Airport Terminal (1), then briefed on the organizational structure of the Airport Operations Department, and mechanisms of handling passengers and luggage. They were also given a visual presentation by Khalid Ahmed detailing the seizures of illegal imports conducted over the past years as well as the ingenious smuggling techniques used.
Also, the delegation was briefed on the parallel operations at Dubai International Airport Terminal (3) in handling passengers and luggage, and the civilized posture of Dubai Customs inspectors towards all incoming passengers, while maintaining a high sense of security alertness.
Also on the agenda is a tour in the Command and Control Room of Dubai Customs which is the first of its kind in the Arab region. It is connected to a top-notch CCTV network, and equipped with the latest smart remote surveillance integrated systems, besides a highly advanced communication mechanism connecting the Command and Control Room operators with the Customs inspectors mobilized all over Dubai Airport terminals.
Moreover during the visit, the delegation was introduced to the “Dubai Customs Barq” project established in coordination with Dubai Smart Government; designed towards informing the leadership team on all of the latest updates regarding Airport Operations. In addition, they were updated on the inspection sections’ adopted work systems, internal equipment section, luggage handling mechanism, and intestine scanning device. They were as well briefed on the “Al Kashif” cart used for Airports’ venues Customs inspection, which is the first of its kind and was awarded the innovative idea trophy at the last DGEP awards.
HE Jassim Al Zaabi praised Dubai Customs’ responsiveness on the up-to-the-minute demands of the industry. He also hailed its outright readiness in dealing with the staggering number of passengers travelling through the Emirate’s sky ports, and he concluded in recommending Dubai International Airport as a role model for Customs work for all of the UAE ports.
On his part, Khalid Ahmed confirmed that the department had adopted and integrated numerous procedures to better facilitate passengers traffic via the three Airport terminals, along with Al Maktoum International Airport passengers terminal, in coordination with Dubai Airports and strategic government partners at the Airport.
He also stressed on Dubai Customs’ keenness on completing passengers’ travel procedures at the shortest time possible, which is acclaimed in activating a large number of inspection devices and providing the operational workforce upholding it, to be continually in a ripe position to accommodate and facilitate the huge flow of flights and visitors to Dubai during peak seasons, besides the regular influx of tourists around the year.
