Khalifa University witnessed today the launch of the GCC Regional School on Nuclear Energy Management, which is hosted by the University and organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in co-operation with the Government of the UAE.

The two week activity is open to forty participants from Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the UAE. It’s aimed at providing a unique international educational experience aimed at building future leadership to manage nuclear energy programs. The intention is to nourish a wide range of knowledge on issues related to the peaceful use of nuclear technology, and to broaden individual networking with people interested in nuclear energy from all over the world.

The opening ceremony was opened by IAEA Deputy Director General, Alexander Bychkov and attended by Dr. Tod Laursen, Khalifa University President, Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, Executive Vice President and senior officials from the University, the IAEA, in addition to Mr. Mohamed Al Hammadi Chief Executive Officer, Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), Mr. William Travers, Director General, Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) and Major Farhan Eid Bilal Al Murar, Head of Operations and Training Section, Nuclear Power Plant Protection Department at the Critical National Infrastructure Authority (CNIA).

Khalifa University was established in February 2007 by a decree issued by the UAE President HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to complement Abu Dhabi's 2030 vision, which aims at building a knowledge-based economy that effectively contributes to the development of the UAE.

Khalifa University's main campus is located in Abu Dhabi, while it operates with another campus in Sharjah, and presently offers Bachelor degrees in Computer, Communication, Electronic, Software, Mechanical, Aerospace and BioMedical Engineering, Master's and Doctorate degree programs in Computer, Telecommunication and Electronic Engineering, in addition to the Master's degree in Information Security. In the future, Khalifa University will also offer degrees in other disciplines of Engineering, Logistics and Management, Life Sciences and Homeland Security.

Moreover, Khalifa University will include research centers in disciplines such as Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Energy, Nanotechnology, Aerospace and Health Sciences.

Khalifa University is open to men and women from all nationalities with particular emphasis being placed on educating young UAE nationals.
