Universal design certification
LG Electronics (LG) received the universal design certification for its Magic Remote and Magic Motion Remote Control, which recognized the two remote control units' role in facilitating and enhancing the Smart TV user experience. The certification was awarded today by Universal Design GmbH in Munich, Germany.
"LG's Smart TV service has remained easy and convenient to use, despite the rapidly growing volume of apps and content," said Mr. D. Y. Kim, President of LG Electronics Gulf FZE. "This can largely be attributed to our innovative remote control devices, which have now been recognized by Universal Design for its convenience and ease of use. Using the Smart TV has never been easier and more convenient."
The Universal Design certification recognized the Magic Remote for its overall product quality, including quality of materials used for manufacturing, ergonomic design and ease of use. Launched in January 2012, the Magic Remote is used for LG's Smart TV services based on Netcast 3.0, LG's proprietary Smart TV operating system that has been installed in LG's 2012 CINEMA 3D Smart TV line-up.
Meanwhile, the Magic Remote's predecessor from 2011, the Magic Motion Remote Control, was also recognized for its quality with regards to delivery, product packaging and graphic design of its packaging. Furthermore, its ergonomic layout, seamless integration with the TV set and rapid response times were also noted. The Magic Motion Remote Control was launched last year, alongside LG's 2011 CINEMA 3D Smart TVs which were equipped with Netcast 2.0.
In addition, usability.de conducted usability tests last November in Germany and the United States, which were organized by iF Design. The tests compared LG's Smart TV and remote control units against several competing products. Both experts and participants selected LG's Smart TV and Magic Motion Remote Control as the most convenient for users.
