Mashreq, the UAE leading financial institution has confirmed their sponsorship for Art Dubai Modern 2014. Art Dubai Modern is a new program devoted to 20th century art from the Middle East and South Asia and featuring influential modern masters as well as research, projects, talks and tours. The exhibition will also be recognizing a number of prominent Emirati artists who have had a significant impact on the evolution and subsequent shaping of regional art.
Art Dubai is held under the Patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai.
The 8th edition of Art Dubai will take place in Madinat Jumeirah from 19th to 22nd March 2014 and is expected to have strong attendance from both regional and international visitors.
Ayman Abuhabsa, Head of Private Banking, Mashreq commented, “We have worked with our partners at the Dubai Art Fair to formulate a program that both captures the Art Fair’s objectives whilst also reflecting our clients’ and visitors’ cultural, social and intellectual interests. We are also equally enthused about the collective level of commitment and broadening participation in the area of art and are happy to be part of it. Over the last few centuries, the Middle East has always been recognized for being at the forefront of creativity and the contributions in the fields of architecture, design and the arts continue to be a reference point to date. The genes of greatness are still very much there and with the right nurturing, sincere commitment and investments from businesses we may witness a regression into breathtaking realities that stimulate both the eyes and minds. We at Mashreq believe that we can play a constructive role in that effort enabled by our deep regional roots and compounding presence.”
Abuhabsa added, “People have traditionally purchased art for passionate as well as a variety of other personal reasons. However, in last decade or so, art is also being viewed and purchased for investment gains purposes and is increasingly referred to as an asset class benchmarked via an index. We again believe, we can play an important role in ensuring that our investors’ views on art are understood, preserved and embraced whilst channeled and rationalized suitably. “
