Management and staff of Millennium & Copthorne, one of the world’s largest hotel companies with more than 120 owned and managed hotels across 20 countries, are set to take part in organised walks across the MENA region this month to mark the World Diabetes Awareness Month.
Representing six Millennium & Copthorne hotels in the UAE, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar, 200 employees are due to walk a total of 632km in to raise awareness for the condition which afflicts an estimated 26.6 million adults in the Middle East alone – accounting for almost 10 per cent of the world’s sufferers*.
Staff from Millennium Airport Hotel Dubai, Copthorne Hotel Dubai, Grand Millennium Dubai, Millennium Hotel Abu Dhabi, Millennium Hotel Doha, Millennium Resort Mussanah and Al Jahra Copthorne Hotel and Resort will take part in walks in their local areas, demonstrating Millennium & Copthorne’s commitment to raising awareness of diabetes in the region with the highest prevalence of the condition in the world.
Nadia Mounib, Marketing and Communications Manager, Millennium & Copthorne Hotels and Resorts, commented:
“At Millennium & Copthorne we have a strong presence in the Middle East market, owning and managing twelve hotels across six countries and employing over 2,500 people. This means that we are invested in our local communities and are committed to making a positive impact. The figures we see on the prevalence of diabetes in our region are worrying: this is why we are doing all we can to raise awareness of this condition, so as to allow people to better understand how to recognise and prevent it. By walking for the cause, we believe that we are making a positive step towards change.”
Earlier this year, Millennium & Copthorne launched its diabetes menu which aims to help diabetes sufferers select the best dish for them when eating out. Developed in partnership with Mafraq hospital in Abu Dhabi, the menu is nutritionally-balanced and helps those with diabetes control blood glucose levels, body fats and blood pressure. Including a range of starters, main courses and desserts with hospital-approved portion sizes, the dishes are available on the room service menus and at the all day dining restaurants across all Millennium & Copthorne hotels in the Middle East.
