Millennium Resort Mussanah is using tourism as a driver for growth and prosperity in the Al Batinah Governorate, increasing job opportunities and income avenues while reinforcing the importance of environmental preservation. To date, Millennium Resort Mussanah has recorded 37% Omanization, with plans to reach 55% by end of 2014.
Maurice De Rooij, General Manager of the Millennium Resort Mussanah, said: “Tourism has been recognised by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos as an area of huge potential growth in the Sultanate, not just in bringing extra visitors to the country but also to uplift towns and cities, and in providing more opportunities for the Omani people. We recognise the role that Millennium Resort Mussanah has in the economy of the Al Batinah Governorate, and we have embraced it by prioritizing employment from the region and supporting the growth of the local supply chain. In doing this, we are offering opportunities to develop talent and help the growth of local businesses. ”
Located on the pristine shores of the Gulf of Oman, Millennium Resort Mussanah was originally built to host the second Asian Beach Games in 2010 but since then it has expanded to become the region’s premier hospitality resort, while continuing to host an array of international sporting events and conferences. To date, the resort has hosted the Men’s and Women’s Beach Handball and Volleyball World Championships in 2012 as well as the 2013 World Laser Championships, which attracted over 500 participating sailors from 52 nations for the first event of its kind to be held in Oman.
De Rooij added: “With tourism to the Sultanate expected to increase by a further 20% this season, we are looking at ways to increase the involvement of the community in our business and train more Omani employees at the resort, particularly in senior positions and front of house roles. In line with our plans, we offer a one year training programme to new recruits providing them with the means for professional growth to managerial roles.”
Millennium Resort Mussanah has also given back to the community by taking part in charitable and environmental initiatives. Staff from the resort volunteered to clean up the Mussanah beach to ensure visitors can enjoy the unspoiled Al Batinah coastline and also became the first hotel in Oman to join ‘Musahamatee’, a social responsibility initiative conceived by Omran in partnership with the non-profit organization, Dar Al Atta’a, that allows guests to donate OMR 1 to their hotel spent directly to the charity.
