Millennium Resort Mussanah invited 20 local students and teachers from Al Khalil Bin Ahmed Al Farahidi School to take part in Earth Day 2015, a global movement designed to promote environmental sustainability. The visiting students and faculty were welcomed to the resort where they participated in a recycling project organised by the venue.
The group of students from Al Khalil Bin Ahmed Al Farahidi School formed clean-up crews with Millennium Resort Mussanah’s Green Team before taking part in a fun inter- active lesson on recycling and meeting at designated recycle stations located in the resort’s IT office, engineering workshop, and staff accommodation among others. Teams disposed of general waste, e-waste and mixed recyclables before identifying methods to reuse them. The day concluded with the cutting of commemorative cake and refreshments.
“The importance of recycling and reusing materials cannot be understated as it improves sustainability efforts by reducing the amount of waste generated, prevents pollution, and saves energy. Recycle, reuse, and reduce is a process we are committed to promoting,” said Rita Ochei, Executive Housekeeper at Millennium Resort Mussanah. “Spreading awareness of environmental conservation among school students is integral to developing a sustainable environment for future generations. It’s our turn to lead and promote the fight for a clean environment.”
Millennium Resort Mussanah annually participates in Earth Day, viewing the event as a way to empower the community and reaffirm the resort’s commitment to maintaining a low carbon footprint. The resort is completely energy-efficient as part of efforts to conserve electricity and water to set a positive example for others to follow.
Launched in 1970, Earth Day began in the USA when over 20 million people joined together to spread environmental awareness. The movement has since become a global event, uniting one billion people in Earth Day related activities annually.
